Confidentiality Policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and their therapist. Information discussed in a counselling session is deemed to be privileged communication and is therefore confidential. However, there are circumstances when therapists are required to disclose information to outside sources under the following conditions:

  • The counsellor believes that the client may be a danger to self or others.
  • The counsellor believes the client may be at risk of being harmed by others.
  • The counsellor becomes aware that a minor is being physically or sexually abused or is at risk of being abused.  By law, the counsellor must report this information to the Ministry of Children and Families.
  • A court of law subpoenas a counsellor's records or particular records regarding an incident.  In such cases, the counsellor will contact the client, if possible, before releasing any information and will notify the client of the proceedings.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Once the client has scheduled an appointment, it is the client’s responsibility to contact Kamloops Counselling in the event that cancellation is necessary. In order to receive a full refund, clients must cancel the appointment at least 24 hrs prior to the scheduled appointment time.
